Simón Sepúlveda is a visual artist and university professor with a degree in Graphic Design and a Master's in Territory and Landscape from the Universidad Diego Portales (Santiago).
His work approaches from the intimate to political, social and territorial landmarks through the use of everyday materials such as bricks, fabrics, drawings and found objects, combining ancestral and contemporary practices such as digital and pre-Columbian codes with vibrant colour palettes and saturated graphic compositions reminiscent of the Latin American textile tradition.
Different formats and scales intersect in his practice, ranging from the monumental to the domestic, from the classicism of tapestry to the thrashing of industrial objects and pop culture symbols. At the intersection of these conceptual and aesthetic interests is the exercise of understanding one's identity in relation to invisibilised collectives to generate new scenarios of possible coexistence.
Simón received an honourable mention in the 2017 MAVI Young Art Prize in Santiago, while he was one of the eight artists selected by the Fundación Montemadrid for the 21st edition of the Certamen de Apoyo al Arte Joven Generaciones in Madrid in 2021. His work has been exhibited in galleries, institutions and biennials in Chile, the United States, Spain and Germany.
Simón Sepúlveda lives and works in Madrid.
