"Diálogo Secreto [Secret Dialogue] was created during the pandemic, searching for changes that could transcend my work. The piece deals with the interconnection of characters in dialogue in an intense and material void (a white background, applied with a palette knife). The bodies unify this network of contacts, using a line of colours that zigzags in a western reading direction, ending at the bottom of the canvas. Each character expresses their existence through their gaze. The name of the painting is taken from the silence of the characters, most of whom, with their mouths covered by this uniform costume, could be keeping a mystery. The reference to classical portraiture has always been present in my work, and this is no exception.
"The subject matter is a reflection on the current forms of communication. All are interconnected by an internet network that runs around the world. Immediate and constant connection. Without seeing our bodies, we know who we are almost only with a name on the screen, only showing what we want to show.
"To create the body network, I worked experimentally on a computer programme. Using a large-diameter digital paintbrush, lines were drawn arbitrarily, forming contorted, strange and highly synthetic bodies. Then, through formal repetition, the arms were made with a thinner brush. The trousers were created as a module, repeated for each character. By dragging the colour, the line that goes through the holes representing the hands of the characters begins to be generated. Faces were worked on the canvas.
"I think it's important to relate the process of the piece because, as I stated, it was born from the experimentation of a computer medium on canvas. This mediation allowed me to go deeper and work on new pieces."
