The mural-sized piece 'Just What Is It That Makes Today's Homos So Different, So Appealing?' is part of a series of Pop Art-inspired still-life paintings in which anti-retroviral drugs and consumer products are contrasted in a critique of the pharmaceutical industry that profits from AIDS. These large-scale photorealist paintings commemorate lost friends and document the history of alliances the artist cultivated with individuals in social contexts and politicised queer artistic circles.
