Our represented artist Cecilia Avendaño is featured on Beautiful Bizarre Magazine's special March issue dedicated to Women Artists, in celebration of International Women's Day.
In the Snapshot section of the magazine, Cecilia was asked about her thoughts on the current gender issues facing the visual arts, and her outlooks on her career as a woman in the arts.
'I've been in a personal journey to find myself, to stand in front of others. At some point my difficulties were reflected in physical pain, but I also thought about what it meant to be a woman, the historical burden which we have dragged through the centuries; it is a long, complex, and painful history that is impossible to ignore. I don't verbalise this story, I carry it inside and I show it through my work and my questions, reflected through the characters in my work'.
