The Invisible Cage | Victor Castillo | 14 Nov - 30 Dec 2018 | Curatorial text by Miguel Lopez
About the artist, López writes: "Víctor Castillo portrays the impossibility of imagining a future from the contemporary moment. Many of his paintings represent on point the repressive conditions derived from an accelerated capitalism and war paranoia, where children and kids are the protagonists of an inevitable tragedy."
The exhibition consists of a sculptural installation along with 15 large and medium-sized paintings in which Víctor depicts innocent characters that –with irony and sarcasm, in between games– show us the dark side of the contemporary society, where the violence natural to humankind, hypocrisy in politics, racism and the unabashed greed of capitalism take place. In his new proposal, Víctor approaches the indoctrination that education can provoke as an invisible cage. In The Invisible Cage, Castillo will present his central piece, The Magic Spell of the Bell, painting inspired by a song by rock band Pink Floyd. The painting is a chronicle of a classroom where a group of children repeats hypnotized, “I will not start a revolution. I will not start a revolution. I will not start a revolution”.
