Víctor Castillo was the first artist to join the Isabel Croxatto Galería project, so it is fitting that the year-long celebrations of our tenth anniversary conclude with an exhibition of his work.
Internationally acclaimed for his unique aesthetic, which combines elements of the golden age of North American animation with a sharp critique of capitalism, Castillo presents in El Loco [The Fool] a series of recent large, medium and small-format works that were exhibited in various cities around the world - including London, Montreal, Barcelona, Santiago de Compostela and Melbourne - which are now shown for the first time in Chile.
The paintings and drawings on the walls of LOCAL 2 tell the story of Víctor Castillo's journey - like the Tarot card that gives the exhibition its name - back to Barcelona, the city to which he emigrated in 2004 and where he recently returned to live after more than a decade in Los Angeles, California.
Combining the wisdom of years with the wildness of youth that is the archetype of El Loco, the pieces that make up the exhibition are superficially chaotic and anarchic but tell the story of a lost and absorbed society with the humour and irony that characterise the artist.
