Juana Gómez Chilean, b. 1980

My research is driven by the urge to understand how we are woven—not only in biological terms, but also in emotional, cultural, and spiritual ones. I use photographs of my own body as a canvas, intervening them with embroidery that replicates organic patterns: neural networks, respiratory circuits, roots. Through thread, I seek to reveal the continuity between the human and the natural, between the internal and the external.

Juana Gómez

Juana Gómez is a visual artist with a degree in Art from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2005). Her first solo exhibition, Hábito (2006), took place at Perrera Arte in Santiago. This was followed by Constructal (2016) at Isabel Croxatto Galería and Distaff (2017), her international debut at Michael Hoppen Gallery in London. She has since participated in numerous group exhibitions and international art fairs, including Photo London, Paris Photo, Art Central Hong Kong, and Art Lima. Her work is held in prominent collections such as Ca.Sa (Chile) and The Private Museum (Singapore).

Gómez’s artistic practice is rooted in the study of natural and biological structures, through which she identifies recurring patterns that link the visible and the invisible—such as leaf venation, river systems, neural networks, ocean currents, and digital infrastructures. By embroidering directly onto photographs, she reveals how these flows impact both physical and symbolic realms, from urban transit systems to the architecture of dreams. Her work explores the idea that all matter—whether living or inanimate—follows a fundamental principle: to move along the path of least resistance.

She lives and works in Santiago, Chile.
