A figure combining Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck atop a Greek sculpture, almost entirely bleached white, stands out against a graffiti-covered wall. Dawn light falls on it, pink on the ears and face, yet so intense that it dissolves its volume: contours soften, the ground becomes a white blur, and the wall recedes into bands of grey. Across this washed-out surface, fine red and yellow scratches cut through the image like retinal disturbances.
The title comes from the Placebo song of the same name, about the hour when someone returns home after a sleepless night while the rest of the city wakes up to go to work. The painting's perspective is that of tired eyes no longer able to focus, dazzled by the morning light. Two of the most reproduced characters in mass culture, grafted onto the classical canon, appear half-erased, less as images than as traces: the marks left on the eyes after seeing them too many times.
