Event | Santiago, Chile

The renowned visual artist Cecilia Avendaño (Santiago, 1980) presented her artist's book Enfermedades Preciosas [Precious Diseases], publication that recounts, through writings, illustrations and images, the creative process behind her photographic series Enfermedades Preciosas.

The series, conceived in 2015, has been shown by Isabel Croxatto Galería in Santiago, Istanbul, and Hong Kong with great success, and will conclude with a grand exhibition to open on October 2019 in Santiago.

The book launch was held on 26 June at Sala de Arte CCU (Vitacura 2680, Las Condes, Santiago), presented by the artist along with curator Andrea Jösch, psychoanalyst Constanza Valenzuela, writer Ariel Richards, and gallerist Isabel Croxatto.

The publication — special bilingual limited edition of 500 copies, numbered and signed — starts the conclusion of the Enfermedades Preciosas project, in which the 18 images that form the series are compiled for the very first time, having eleven of them remained unseen until now.

The book, printed in collaboration with Ograma and distributed by Isabel Croxatto Galería, recollects in 160 pages writings in Spanish and English by Cecilia Avendaño, Andrea Jösch, curator of the project; writer Rocío Cano; Spanish investigator Elsa McCausland; and art theoretician Sergio Rojas; illustrations by Daniela Ramírez and Alvaro Arteaga, and graphic design by Patricio Vallejos.
