“In those makeup-stained cloths lies the truth of my performance and the vulnerability of my skin.” — Nia de Indias
A textile archive of affection, memory, and the right to be loved.
After a decade inhabiting both his identity as a visual artist and his drag alter ego, Nia de Indias presents Love Declaration, an exhibition that transforms memories, personal belongings, and lived experiences into a territory of affection, memory, and desire.
Constructed from fragments of costumes, childhood fabrics, historical photographs, and intimate materials accumulated over the years, the exhibition proposes an emotional archaeology in which each work becomes a portrait of what remains after the performance. Through sewing, assemblage, and the accumulation of traces, Nia de Indias transforms personal experiences into images that explore vulnerability, identity construction, and the universal need for love.
Between the theatricality of drag, the tenderness of family memories, and the elegance of mid-twentieth-century studio photography, Love Declaration imagines new forms of intimacy and belonging. More than a reflection on romantic love, the exhibition is an affirmation of affection as a space of recognition, care, and freedom.
