Carolina Muñoz and Paloma Castillo Featured in Un Nuevo Mundo Group Show

News | Santiago, Chile
Our represented artists Carolina Muñoz and Paloma Castillo are part of the group exhibition Un Nuevo Mundo, organised by the Chilean Chapter of the National Museum of Women in the Arts to celebrate ten years of activity in Chile. The exhibition will be held at the Centro Cultural El Tranque in Santiago from 3 March to 2 April 2023.

Un Nuevo Mundo is the fourth edition of the Women to Watch project, an initiative launched in 2008 that aims to give visibility to women artists by selecting one work from each of the organisation's 24 national and international chapters, which will form part of an exhibition to be held later this year in Washington DC.

Collector Felipe Forteza was the curator of Un Nuevo Mundo, which brought together six renowned Chilean galleries run by women: Aninat Galería, Artespacio, Factoría Santa Rosa, Isabel Croxatto Galería, Madre and Galería Patricia Ready, which represent the 12 artists included in the exhibition: Carolina Muñoz, Catalina Mena, Eliana Simonetti, Fernanda López, Francisca Garriga, Francisca Rojas, Krasna Vukasovic, Magdalena Atria, Mariana Najmanovich, Mónica Bengoa, Paloma Castillo and Pía Bahamondes.

"Their themes focus on the way they see the future of a world that has affected millions of people in the wake of extraordinary events since 2020: a global pandemic, intense demands for social reform or unprecedented political divisions. These profound explorations result in pieces in which the artists express how these conditions have affected their current vision of the experiences that surround them, inspiring them to create different realities, be they optimistic, fantastic, credible or unbelievable, contributing their perceptions, hopeful or fatalistic," says Forteza.

Carolina Muñoz participates with the painting Diálogo Secreto (2020), in which she presents "the way in which the characters are connected in a universalised unity, where identity keeps secrets and only shows what one wants to show". "I think this is something that is already happening and will continue to happen in the future," adds Carolina.

Paloma Castillo, on the other hand, presents her embroidery Brisa Nuclear (2022). Paloma explains: "It's an embroidery made thinking about the war in Ukraine and how the youth of that country would take on the war in their clothing. It's an apocalyptic young man who shows in his clothes the devastation of war, how to adapt to this new way of life".
