Johans Peñaloza Finalist for the 2023 Artefacto Young Art Prize

News | Santiago, Chile
Isabel Croxatto Galería is proud to share that our represented artist Johans Peñaloza is a finalist for the 2023 Artefacto Young Art Prize in Santiago.
Johans's painting Sin Título [Untitled] was selected out of over 220 projects and will be part of the group exhibition presenting the 40 finalist pieces, encompassing painting, photography, drawing, sculpture and installation. The group show will be held at Lo Matta Cultural in Vitacura (Santiago) from 8 August through 1 October.
About his artwork, Johans comments: "Technology has reached levels of development that are as calculated as they are unexpected. These achievements coexist on the Internet and all around us today. This is why recognising what is real through an image has challenged me to use painting to present both real and unreal things to others. Thus, my paintings use informal techniques to represent the characteristics of what I find both sublime and threatening about the present and how it is constructed through a series of images".
The Artefacto Young Art Prize is given by the Cultural Corporation of Vitacura in Santiago, and the jury for its 2023 edition was composed of the Spanish curator Inés Ortega-Márquez, the Chilean artist Magdalena Atria, and the Chilean curator Antonio Echeverría.

Congratulations, Johans!
