Artist Jessica Briceño Cisneros, represented by Isabel Croxatto Galería, presents the exhibition COPAS: Elevated Water Tanks in Santiago at Palacio Pereira.
The exhibition focuses on the elevated water tanks that crown many buildings across Santiago, approaching them through their sculptural dimension and their quiet presence within the urban landscape. Often perceived from afar or overlooked in everyday life, these modern infrastructures are revisited as forms that, from certain viewpoints, take on an almost abstract and poetic quality.
Through video, plans, and functional objects, the project proposes a shift in perception—from a technical reading toward a material, historical, and symbolic one. In this sense, the tanks are understood not only as feats of engineering, but as traces of urban modernization processes linked to state-led initiatives following the 1939 earthquake.
Briceño Cisneros’s research engages architecture, memory, and perception, revealing how these structures contribute to shaping the contemporary urban imaginary. By isolating, documenting, and reconfiguring them, the artist brings attention to elements that typically remain outside the field of visibility.
The exhibition reflects an ongoing practice that critically examines the built environment, situating her work at the intersection of art, the city, and material culture.
