News | Santiago, Chile

Our represented artists Coco González Lohse and Juvenal Barría have been selected, along with several other Chilean artists, for the National Acquisition of Works of Art, open call held by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage of Chile.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Minsitry, through the Undersecretary of Cultures and Arts, invited visual artists to participate in the National Call for the Acquisition of Works of Art, aiming to contribute to the protection and enhancement of the national visual arts through the creation of a fund of contemporary artworks by Chilean artists.

The works to be acquired by the Ministry were selected by a committee formed, among others, by photographer Paz Errázuriz, National Art Prize 2017curator Paula Honorato, representing the National Museum of Fine Arts; Francisco Brugnoli, Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art; Claudia Zaldívar, Director of the Museo de la Solidaridad; and Florencia Loewenthal, Director of Galería Gabriela Mistral

Coco González Lohse's piece El Amante (1994) was selected in the Established category for artists of 21 years or more of career, while the artist's proofs of Juvenal Barría's awarded series Ficciones Exteriores II were selected in the Mid-Career category for artists between 9 and 20 years of work.

By this acquisition, the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage of Chile will ensure the artworks' conservation and circulation as public heritage, freely accessible to all. The selected pieces will also be catalogued and made available digitally on different platforms of the Ministry.

Congratulations, Coco and Juvenal!
