Isabel Croxatto Galería is pleased to announce its latest collaboration project, the LA-based Chilean artist Víctor Castillo's solo exhibition Somewhere Over the Rainbow, presented online in association with renowned actor Val Kilmer's HelMel Studios & Gallery.
Somewhere Over the Rainbow features new work on canvas and paper, in a personal tribute to the world of cinema. The exhibition is presented on-site at HelMel Studios in Los Angeles, and online by Isabel Croxatto Galería on Artsy and isabelcroxattogaleria.com until 26 June 2021.
Finding inspiration from some of Castillo’s favourite films and animated features including The Birds, The Bad Seed, Snow White, Wizard of Oz, and Oliver!, the exhibition Somewhere Over the Rainbow includes seven new paintings on canvas, ten on vintage lobby cards from his personal collection, and sketches drawn on paper as studies for some of his most well-known artworks.
For Víctor, “Light is everything. It allows me to construct the emotional atmosphere that stands out and makes the stories. More than the paintings in museums, my reference for light has always been the movies and classic animations.”
An exclusive 5-piece advance of Somewhere Over the Rainbow was presented by Isabel Croxatto Galería last September for Víctor's special project for the curated section CUBO of the online art fair otra feria in 2020.
A limited-edition 192-page hardcover monograph was published specially for the exhibition. The book includes 239 images from the last 15 years of Víctor Castillo's amazing career, together with texts by Val Kilmer, Merry Karnowsky, Kirsten Anderson, Monte Beauchamp, and Miguel A. Lopez. A limited number of hand-signed and numbered copies are available at Isabel Croxatto Galería.
Established by Val Kilmer in 2018 in Los Angeles, California, HelMel Studios and Gallery is a creative sandbox where interdisciplinary ideas combine and grow beyond convention to form something greater, impacting the community and the world around.
