I have always been struck by the hypnotic effect of certain portraits, such as those by Picasso and Ingres. Their abstraction and painterly force surpass the subject, and the sitter dissolves within the forms. From this approach, I developed these paintings. They can be understood as portraits of absence and of the forms of light. The intention was to create simple, everyday images that nonetheless suggest the fantastic. - Rolankay
