Infiltradax | Juvenal Barría
Curatorial Text | Andrea Aguad
10 - 30 May 2018
Barría, a visual artist and photographer, graduated in art from the University of Playa Ancha, Valparaíso, presents an installation made up of video, slides and photography. This new research and production arises from the process of collecting photographic files: 42 color slides in their original frame of the late Agfa company, which record the journey of a lonely woman through different cities of the world between the 1960s and 1970s. .
From this found material, the construction of a new story is proposed, which addresses gender issues, and social aspects such as loneliness, inclusion and discrimination. In "INFILTRADAX" the artist offers us a fiction that is articulated from the simulacrum, simulation and hyper-reality. “La Nana”, a transvestite character, was born in 2007 as part of the artist's performative work, which in this exhibition infiltrates the image, installing a disturbing visual hybridization and constructing alternative and anomalous stories, open to different readings.
